Meanwhile Scribblenauts Showdown cost me somewhere in the $50 (AUD) price range. Now again I know this game doesn't really advertise itself as being what the other games are but by god I feel it's really going backwards for the series, especially when I'm getting more gameplay out of scribblenauts unlimited (I just dislike the adjective system this game introduced that was brought over to showdown) / remix on my phone then on my switch which together cost me maybe about 10$ (AUD). (This is a feature I believe was introduced into ultimate and is why I prefer remix over all) The only positive thing about this feature I could consider is if you were able to remove each adjective individually as you have to add them individually, but alas you can't and so you're stuck with having to remove ALL adjectives if you want to get rid of just one on an object that has a large number of adjectives.Īnother concern is the lack of story puzzles, now I know this is "scribblenauts showdown" but man the story puzzles is where the game showed it's creativity, if you're not aware the original games had a feature where once you finished a level you could master it, you would master it by doing the same level a few times over but you weren't allowed to use the same words as you did the time before, getting harder and requiring more obscure words or creative plans to do simple or complex tasks. The adjectives system also sucks so much, instead of being able to write " suicidal insane pink floating angry knife", you now have to make the knife, spawn it into the world and then apply each adjective individually, which is ridiculous. Speaking of the keyboard I really dislike how the game stops you so you can't write non existent words or even misspell the word and have the game correct you "do you mean x?" Like I know there's only a limited amount of words in the first place but it really makes the whole game feel a lot more restrictive then the others when chances are it has a larger amount of words then the original games. It just truley baffled me that the touch screen was not supported, and not just for moving things around but for the keyboard! The main usage of the keyboard requires you to use the thumb stick and the buttons, like for Christ sakes Bayonetta has touch screen support for god knows why and yet scribblenauts doesnt?
Some examples include the lack of touchscreen support, now for a game like Scribblenauts the ability to drag things onto other things, link them together, throw things into the trash was much fun, especially when you're trying to make some complicated combinations you don't want to colide just yet. I can't comment much on the showdown mode since I've played it for a few minutes but the few minutes I played I got pretty bored with it.Īs for sandbox now as I said earlier scribblenauts is one of the few games where me, someone who is pretty dry on creativity can really play around, and boy does the game take away everything good about the original scribblenauts. Now luckily all the points I had saved up over buying some other switch games over the past year meant I barely had to pay anything for the game but I must say, it's been quite a let down.įirstly the versus games, other than the fighting one (where the first time I played the CPU who I picked a high difficulty spawned a mop and I spawned a machine gun), even when you pick the wordy game mode your words barely do anything, the eating one doesn't change like how big your item is depending on what item you used or anything like that and the same goes for other games, I know it's meant just for versus sake but as I said, the words barely do anything to change the gameplay, it's more of a filler to attempt to liven up a pretty repetitive set of games. Now firstly, I love the Scribblenauts titles, fell in love with it on my DS, have all the mobile games and I was so excited for the switch edition. Hi all, I Just wanted to give my few cents on the game Scribblenauts Showdown.
